So, it’s that time… time to choose the dresses your bridesmaids will be wearing. No matter if you have one bridesmaid or 10, it is important to really think about what you want them to wear, as well as what they will be comfortable wearing. Put yourself in their shoes, if you will. They will be by your side throughout the entire affair. There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of bridesmaid’s dresses out there from which to choose. It can be overwhelming, but there are tips to remember that can make the process easier, and even fun, for both you and your gals.
Choose multiple colors: All of your bridesmaids are different, and that includes different skin tones. Different colors look better on certain ladies than others. For example, if a bridesmaid is super pale, maybe black or another dark color is not the way to go. To escape this problem, many brides are opting to have their bridesmaids wear different colors. If you do this, it is important to keep the colors harmonized in some fashion. For example, you may love pink… the great thing is that there are so many shades of pink that there is sure to be a shade to compliment each bridesmaid. Also, “rainbow” bridesmaids are coming back into fashion. It is a wink and a nudge to the 1960s where each bridesmaid wore a color that was completely different, but still within the same family. For a spring wedding, bridesmaids can wear a variety of pastels that give a soft look, allowing them to choose their own color but still look similar.
Choose different styles: This trend is fairly new and definitely here to stay. Each bridesmaid has a different body type. Women come in all shapes and sizes and it is so very important to keep this in mind. You may love one design, but it may not flatter everyone in your party. You want your bridesmaids to feel good about themselves on the big day. A great suggestion is to pick your bridesmaid dress color, then let the gals choose what style they feel they look best wearing. You and your bridesmaids have room to be very creative here. For example, some ladies might be self-conscious about their legs. If so, let them wear a longer gown in your chosen color. Or, a bridesmaid may not feel comfortable showing cleavage or exposing too much skin. In this case, let her choose a higher neckline or cap sleeves. The possibilities are endless.
Avoiding Wedding Dress Scams
May 14, 2012
Budget-savvy brides may search online for a dress deal, but not every website is a dream come true. According to MarkMonitor, a brand protection firm, you should look for these red flags. First, beware of any price that’s too good to be true. Second, always check the return and privacy policies. If they are confusing or seem ambiguous, you could be dealing with a scam artist.
Also, check the dress designer’s website to see if the webiste you are considering buying the dress through is an “authorized” retailer.
You can also run search of the website, by adding the word “scam,” to see if there are any complaints.
